Singakademie zu Berlin

SING-AKADEMIE ZU BERLIN’S CHAMBER CHOIR

Sing-Akademie’s chamber choir is a semi-professional vocal ensemble which gives concerts in various combinations of between four and 24 voices. It concentrates mainly on works of Berlin’s music history, especially on works in Sing-Akademie’s archive, which was returned to Berlin from Kiev in 2002. The programmatic focus is therefore on hitherto unknown sacred choral compositions of the 18th century. Over the past years, works by, for example, Wilhelm Friedemann Bach, Graun, Lotti, Pergolesi, Telemann, and Zelter have had their modern premieres.

The ensemble consists of members of Sing-Akademie’s main chorus, students of UdK, as well as invited singers who take on solo parts and otherwise work freelance in the field of old music. The chamber choir cooperates closely with Lautten Compagney and its conductor Wolfgang Katschner. In 2007, the chamber choir participated in a workshop conducted by the renowned Hilliard Ensemble.
