TAVOLA DI CANTO. VOCAL ENSEMBLE FOR NEW MUSIC
Tavola di Canto is an ensemble for contemporary vocal compositions and improvisation, established by Sing-Akademie zu Berlin. In appears in quite different formations: its spectrum ranges from complex atonal singing as soloists all the way to a large mass choir in action. Every years, four singers or performers experienced in the field of new music are members of the ensemble as “guests in residence”. In addition, the lay singers and semi-professional singers participate in projects of the ensemble, as do writers, composes, and actors. Most of the projects and actions originate in the Liedertafel, a monthly workshop for poets and writers, composers, and singers at Villa Elisabeth. Tavola di Canto has received invitations from Poesiefestival Berlin, Akademie der Künste, and Deutsche Oper Berlin. It has sung world premieres of works by Jörg Birkenkötter, Katia Tchemberdji, and Alexis Agrafiotis, as well as vocal improvisations to texts by Ulf Stolterfoht, Elke Erb, Michael Donhauser, and concrete poetry from Brazil.
