2000 - 2006
After Hans Hilsdorf's death, the Sing-Akademie was led by several interim conductors. Steffen Schubert deserves special mention here.
In September 2002, Joshard Daus became artistic director. He instigated a close cooperation with the Europachor-Akademie. During this time, the first performances of works from the restituted archive took place, as well as recordings of the passions by Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach. In December 2005, the cooperation between Joshard Daus and the choir ended by mutual agreement. A six-month pause of Sing-Akademie's musical work ensued.
In the summer of 2006, the work was taken up again under the conductor Professor Kai-Uwe Jirka, and thoroughly renewed and modernised. The profile of the main choir changed through a cooperation with the Universität der Künste Berlin [University of the Arts]: apart from its concert activity, the choir now also serves as a training ensemble for students of choral conducting. The first public appearance of the choir after its hiatus was on 26 November 2006 with the programme 'Bey Mozarts Grabe: Trauermusiken für Vielgeliebte [At Mozart's Grave: Mourning Music for the Much-Beloved], which included a hitherto unknown cantata on Mozart's death by Anton Eberl as well as a-cappella music by the former directors Fasch, Zelter, and Rungenhagen.
At the same time, the development of the network Benevoli, the Sing-Akademie for children and young people, and the revival of the Liedertafel as a workshop for contemporary writing and music all add to the new face of the Sing-Akademie.
